Chocologs advert evaluation

                                             Chocologs advert evaluation

When it came to choosing a genre and what kind of advert we wanted to do it was very hard as we did not know what kind of advert we wanted to products. when we then talked as a group we all though the best thing to do was to do a advert for children of the ages of 8-12 both genders as me and desire both have younger brothers between those ages, so if we need to film with kids we both had kids we could film with. once we knew that the advert was going to be about children we then though about what kids liked and it was not very hard as being kids once before we know that kids love chocolate so we knew that was the right product to do our advert about. we wanted some funny parts in the advert about we did not know how to go about it so we asked our teacher for help to where we would put in humour. once we knew this we got to work doing the pre-production tasks we were able to go ahead and start producing our advert. We had chosen an advert over a music video as we had two choices and the reason for this is because we had done a advert for a previous project therefore was we knew what we had to do and it was easier for us to do also everyone in our class where doing a music video so we did not want to do what everyone was doing.

The purpose of our advert was for it to be funny so when the audience watch it they will laugh at it and will also remember the advert. Moreover the reason why we had decided that we wanted to include a child who was the same age as our audience is so when the audience watch the advert they can feel as if they can relate to what is happening in the advert. The advert was that the boy had sat down to do his math homework but was finding it hard to do it because he did not listen in class when the teacher was talking about the work, so when it came to him doing his work he did not know how to do it because he zoned out. Then he starts remember about a chocolate he had heard about, which magically appears on his doorstep. Once sees it on his doorstep, he has the chocolate and then rushes to go ahead and does his math homework without a problem and then ends up turning hyper and running around the park. The meaning of this advert was to indicate to the audience that everyone does zone out in lesson and doing homework can be very frustrating especially when you have come home after a long day at school however the part where the boy goes ahead and eats the chocolate, then runs around the park indicates to the audience that you need to have a break and it is okay if you go out to the park, but in general you need to de-stress and relax then do what you need to do such as your homework. Overall the purpose of the advert was to promote the chocolate called Chocologs to the audience in a way that the main target audience would be able to put them self in the same place as the actor and would make them want to buy the chocolate as they showed in the advert, if they wanted help with their homework they will have help if they eat the chocolate and as kids are gullible and trusting if will be easier for us to get them to buy it.

Overall I feel that we did achieve the purpose which was to entertain the audience with our humour narrative and I also feel that it is good for someone who may have had a hard day at school which would be the primary audience or stresses from work which would be the secondary audience which would be considered as escapism. When it came to doing the pre-production tasks and filming it was very easy in the content of that we had already done the documents, booking out cameras and filming for a previous projects so we were very familiar with what had to be done however I feel when it came to filming we did not stick to the storyboard. I have noticed in our previous projects we have always had a problem when it came to actually sticking to the shots that were written on our storyboard which meant that we would go ahead write a detail explanation in our evaluation as to why we did not use the storyboard. This is not the case. We do refer back to the storyboard however we usually have some sort of issue which means that we have to film in a rush due to something always happening which is bad management on our behalf but this just means because we are rushing to get the content filmed we do not refer back to the shots/angles which were written on our storyboard. I feel this was not right because if we were in the professional industry really filming an advert we would of had to make sure that we would refer to the storyboard because it would very unprofessional if someone was looking over the work and saw that in the storyboard for example there was one shot that was mentioned however in the actual media product there was another shot that was used.

As we were one of the groups who had filmed first it meant that we were able to use the editing suite when everyone else in the class was using the lesson time to film. However when it came to editing, we had uploaded and exported the footage and when it came to re watching the content it was all blurry. However when it was being filmed it was all in focus so we tried to change the sharpness and try to make the overall clips less blurry by using Google research and YouTube tutorials however this did not help with the way that the overall clips had looked. We had decided that we would go ahead and re-film the content. However this was a bit of a struggle due as the camera we used was not working very well so I had to get my older brothers camera to film the advert for the second time. Due to filming a second time in a round it meant that we were not able to use the college editing suite in order to edit therefore we had used one of our member’s laptop in order to edit as they had premiere pro which was the software that we were using. This meant that one member had to go to the others house in the half term and edit, then upload the video. I felt that all of this could've been avoided if we were just better with our time. One area I feel that we could've improved on was our strategy on how everyone managed what had to be done in the content of filming and editing. I don't feel that the roles were spread out as efficiently as I thought they could have been. I feel that the pre-production was sorted out right due to the fact that everyone had done two documents which meant all the pre-production was done very quickly however I feel if we sorted out who would do what more efficiency it would mean that we all could've got a turn to film and edit.
I feel if we had more time that we would be able to add more effects not only with the types of edits but with the sound effects that we want to add however because we were in a rush this was not possible and it would've been nice if it could've been done.
I was not personally involved in the filming aspect of the production due to the fact that we were using one of our members own camera meaning that we did not have to go ahead and get one from the college however we did live very far apart so the way we worked it out was that the two other members of the group would film and i would do all the editing. However I know when it came to filming the park scenes sometimes it would be a bit difficult as when we had to go ahead and film it the second round time it was raining so when we tried to merge clips together for the park scene it looked very weird because there was different lighting. The same happened with the other clips that we had filmed as we had used some bits from clips that we had previously filmed and because the sun was not out on the day that we had to film the second round time it was very hard in order to change the lighting . Therefore when we were editing on premiere pro we had to go ahead and change the lighting/brightness to make it all the same colour.

Feedback given back by Desiree's brother’s friend:

It was a good idea very reliable as I don't like to do homework and I usually stop listing in lesson
I like the music in the background
I like the way you have used chocolate because many children like chocolate
It was funny when he was running in the park and the women was looking at him
Liked the way it started in the beginning
Liked the logo for the advert
Overall i would say my main area for improvement and development would be to of had more editing time. Again like our previous projects i feel that we do not have enough time to edit due to focusing on filming too much or re filming scenes. This could be avoided if we had managed our time right and had a secure/final back up plan in case our original plan did not work out
What would i add when it came to editing if we had any time left:
A light bulb sound lighting up for humour
Different edits such as the transitions as there was only one main transition throughout the whole advert
Different sound effects and not just one that is generically used in many different humorous adverts

  1. This is a very detailed evaluation Shifau with a clear account of how you developed your editing skills and included these. Vanessa
