Street art, graffiti and the youth of east London. These subjects have become entwined over the past years. Youth people today have become more interested in fine art because of graffiti and with the increased popularity of street art and band like rudimental are using the Dalston Peace Carnival Mural in hackney in east London have shown a light on graffiti in a good way. Rudimental are not the only people that the youth of east London are watching and taking inspiration from artists like Cartrian who is a local resident to the east London borough of Leytonstone. This article will consist of talk about how street art and graffiti has become more mainstream in media be it in a positive and or negative way.

Street art and graffiti has been around for a long time. Teenagers from this decade and past decades have use graffiti as a way of expressing themselves. Some may say that graffiti is bad as it ruins the aesthetic of many areas in east London. Some may also say it makes the areas look trashy and or poorer because of that. The youth of east London may disagree with these statements. As many know youth clubs in East London have been closing for many years now. This leaves the youth of East London to their own devices as people who were in Youth clubs before close said it did keep them out of trouble. Since there is no other way for the youth of East London to express them self-many say that graffiti and street art is needed.

Famous music Artists like rudimental use graffiti and street art in a positive light unlike the way it's betrayed in the media. Rudimental used the Dalston Peace Carnival Mural in hackney in east London for their album cover for their first album called Home. The use of street art on a album cover not only show how Times are changing and because of that street art and graffiti is now shown as acceptable album cover art it also shows people that the rudimental are born and breed in hackney and where is no better way of showing that other they showing something that has been a part of history in hackney since the 1980’s. Action like these are the reasons why graffiti and street art have been shown in a positive light over the past years.

“Street art is visual art created in public locations, usually unsanctioned artwork executed outside of the context of traditional art venues. The term gained popularity during the graffiti art boom of the early 1980s and continues to be applied to subsequent incarnations.” Be it good or bad graffiti and street are here to stay if people like it or not graffiti is a way of expressing yourself and if we were to continue to charge minors for minor crimes like graffiti and street art they we are a community would continue to ruin hundreds of teenagers lives for years with criminal records and the only crimes that they committed was the crime of expression.
